Place your lighting fixtures strategically so that you can minimize the number that you ultimately have to purchase. A lot of people don't realize this, but the average home actually has too many lighting fixtures to be useful. Some split level homes actually have lighting fixtures on two split levels that face each other so that a family never ends up using more than one of the lighting fixtures at a time. It seems patently ridiculous to have that kind of a setup and if you want to avoid that for your residential interior then it is important that you place your lighting fixtures in ways that they light up as much of the area as possible. You can take a flashlight around your house and try it out in various areas to see what the effect of lighting is in different rooms and then use that information to figure out the best areas to place your lighting fixtures in.

Where possible, think about combining lighting fixture types in order to make a unique design. A lot of people fret about furniture and room designs, but very few people realize that you can get similarly impressive results a lot cheaper if you mix and match the lighting fixtures that you use in each room.
