You Got To Know How
Wong Darren
There are various microorganisms growing in and out of your body, so fungus growth will not really be a problem if your immune system can fight it and maintain it at tolerable levels. However, when there's a breakdown in your body's defenses and your fungi grows out of control, it will definitely cause problems in the appearance and health of your nails.
Symptoms of Nail Fungus
How do you know if you are already infected with nail fungus? Here are some of the symptoms you should watch out for:
• Your nails will become flaky and brittle.
• Sometimes, the nails will have white patches, or become yellowish and brownish.
• Your nails will smell bad.
• A lot of debris can accumulate under the nail.
• There might be pain on your toes because the nails will usually change its shape, making it difficult to wear shoes and walk.
• Your affected nails can separate from their nail beds.
Causes of Nail Fungus
There are a variety of reasons why nail fungus gets into your nails. These include the following:
• If you keep on wearing tight shoes, your toenails can become weak, therefore attracting the fungus to come in.
• Walking barefoot in pools, locker rooms, and public showers can also cause fungus to enter your nails.
• If you trim your nails too short, it can result in little cuts that would allow easy penetration for the fungus.
• Wearing fingernail polish will also contribute. Because your nail will not be able to breathe, more moisture will be trapped under your nail. Therefore, more fungi will thrive on it.
Prevention of Nail Fungus
So how can you prevent nail fungus from infecting you? You may consider the following:
• Keep your hands and feet clean – wash them regularly with water and soap. However, make sure you dry them thoroughly after washing.
• Wear socks or shoes that are not too tight. You should be comfortable and allow your feet to breathe in order to prevent excessive moisture from lingering.
• Trim your nails properly – not too short or too long.
• Make it a habit to use foot powder with the highest quality. Talcum powder is best to absorb excess moisture.
• As much as possible, wear protective shoes or sandals in public showers or locker rooms.
• Avoid using hosiery that fits too tight. It will definitely contribute to more moisture.
• Disinfect all pedicure tools and nail clippers.
• If possible, use your own tools whenever you get pedicures or manicures.
Treatment of Nail Fungus
If you found that you have nail fungus, you should start treatment right away. The longer you wait, more difficult it will be to cure it. Also, delaying your treatment will cause the fungus to rapidly spread.
Some people spend many months trying to treat fungus with home remedies such as rubbing alcohol, vinegar, or bleach. However, some doctors say that these are not very effective. These doctors usually prescribe oral medications even if these drugs have some side effects. Nevertheless, it's always better to treat your nail fungus rather than live with it.
