All About Acne Dysmorphia
karlaamerson
Acne dysmorphia is a complete deviation to the real acne which is prevalent among teenagers. It is a condition where the sufferer thinks that his skin is irregular due to acne and the person is not nice to look at. In most of these cases there may be no acne or the acne may be mild or sometimes invisible, but they obsessively believe that they have horrible skin. These kinds of people are usually referred to the psychiatrist but they by themselves resort to all kinds of alternative forms of treatment.
The people who suffer from this disorder usually go on pinching their skins until they bleed, even though they don't have a reason to and they just believe that they have acne. Even if you take such people in front of the mirror and show them their face, they still are not going to believe you because they think they have acne. It is only in their hands to convince themselves otherwise. These disorders however are rare, but they still exist and more cases are becoming apparent. Usually people are too shy to talk about it so they are not very upfront about what they think in such cases.
However, these patients and their condition cannot be left untreated, especially in the case of teenagers. Usually the physician or the dermatologist will recognize this condition immediately and will ask them a lot of questions. Based on the evaluation, they will definitely suggest psychiatric treatment because only people who have real acne can be treated and not people who think they have acne, or who just have mild acne. Usually patients are teenagers because there is a lot of pressure in this particular age group to look good. Teenagers have peer -pressure, and it also clear that flawless skin is in much higher demand at their age.
