The three most popular things found in a bird hunter's stash are bird calls, decoys, and waders. These items are the most basic tools needed for a successful bird hunt, and using them can mean the difference between catching one bird, and catching one dozen.
The most basic tool necessary to ever bird hunter's bag is a bird call. A hunter blows through one end of the instrument and the noise mimics the mate of the bird you're calling for. Every bird's call is different, so a different bird call is required for every type of bird a hunter wishes to hunt. A turkey call for instance, won't bring in a pheasant. For this reason buying a number of different bird calls can be very expensive, but when used the correct way, the calls are well worth their money.
Another popular bird hunting tool is the decoy. Decoys are a fake representation of the bird your trying to hunt. Many birds are flock birds, meaning they are attracted to other birds of their species and will often land when they see one. Some birds that are often fooled by a decoys are ducks and Canada geese. These decoys are often very lifelike and hunters are tremendously successful when using them. Decoys should be set up in areas that the hunter plans to hunt, then it becomes a waiting game.
The hunter sits and waits for birds to land, this is where the call comes in. The birds will hear the call, then will see a few decoys and land in the area. This is the hunter's chance. The call and the decoy work together to greatly increase the chances of a successful hunt.
While the last tool in the hunter's bag may not be directly related to the hunt, they can be a lifesaver. Waders become very helpful when a hunter is in a wet area. Waders fit over the lower half of the body and allow the hunter to get in waist deep water or marshy areas without getting wet. Many birds a hunter may choose to hunt are wetland birds, either living right on the water such as ducks, or stick close to it like geese. When hunting these birds a hunter has a very good chance of getting wet unless he has a good pair of waders.
With these few essentials a hunter can greatly increase his chances of a successful bird hunt. The tools will be fun to use and give the hunter a chance to better his game.
