Visiting Dublin
Sian Mcinnery
Dublin is a wonderful city to visit, no matter what time or year. Spring is the ideal season to visit Dublin because its off-season and the rates are reasonable and because it's when many of the holidays and festivals occur. Of course, the most important holiday in Dublin is St. Patrick's Day. If you'd like to visit during the holiday, be sure to make reservations!
If you travel to Dublin you are going to want to make sure that you do a lot of shopping since Dublin has some great shopping areas. The main shopping areas in Dublin are Temple Bar, Nassau Street, Henry Street, O'Connell Street, St. Stephen's Green, and Grafton Street. If you're looking for some great new clothes that are in style for the upcoming season you will want to pay a visit to the Brown Thomas department store that is on Grafton Street for some wonderful Irish design.
There are some large department stores in Dublin that will keep you busy for hours. The biggest department store is located in St. Stephen's huge shopping mall. Plan a day here for shopping and then plan on having dinner in one of the many surrounding restaurants. During the summer months this area of Dublin is very crowded so be sure to make a reservation at the restaurant of your choice to be sure that you don't have to wait in line.
Dublin has shopping for everyone, including clothing, jewelry, crafts, and antiques. If you take a trip to Dawson Street you'll be able to find some smaller, exclusive clothing stores. These stores will carry a more expensive line of clothing but will be well worth the price when you find yourself wearing a one-of-a-kind designer dress.
Dublin is also famous for its wonderful indoor and outdoor markets that take place at different times of the week. The best and largest market is Mother Redcap's, which can be found in Back Lane. This is a huge indoor market that will delight you with its books, music, antiques, clothes, cheeses, cakes, and other tasty treats.
Book lovers can get lost in the wonderful bookstores of Dublin. Whether your interest is general bestseller fare or you are searching for the hard to first edition print, there are many bookstores that can help you find what you're looking for. If you are searching for a selection of antiquarian books, go to Catch Books, which is located on Duke Street. When visiting Dublin, don't forget to take time out of from sightseeing to spend a few hours, or days, shopping.
