Your house starts looking different. There is a newness in the look. Happiness seems to have been sprinkled everywhere. All around you are happy and there is no limit to your happiness. You shop around for the best goodies in the market, the best jewelery and order for the best cake available in the market. The smell of champagne and wine fills the air way before the event. This is the time when you actually understand the value of the white gown and the veil that covers your face. No other occasion or event could bring you more happiness than your wedding. Wedding is the beginning of your marriage. The beginning of a life where everything is so good and happy.
There is an impatient waiting for the month of June. The sound of wedding bells fill the air. June is the time when most of the weddings are planned. By tradition June is the month for getting married. You can almost claim June as a synonym to the word wedding. Such is the importance of the month and the interest of the people. June is usually the beginning of the summer season, after the rainy spring. The flowers have all bloomed and their scent fills the air. Its mostly the roses everywhere. A beautiful ambiance, perfect for the wedding. June is usually considered a very lucky month for the weddings as it is named after Juno, the Roman goddess of love and marriage. Juno is the wife of Jupiter and the mother of Mars. She holds an importance almost as equal to the Greek goddess Hera. Thus June being named after such an important person is definitely a reason enough to hold weddings. Moreover when it comes to an occasion like wedding, we always tend to associate it with something good. Yet another reason for June being the ideal season for wedding is that, it is the summer month and people associate it with sun and its fertility. One very famous tradition that prevails in Scotland is the walking of the bride along with the sun. this is done to bring good luck. The bride walks from east to west. This is done on the south side of the church, thereafter walking around the church three times. No matter how hot it may be outside, but we care little when it concerns good luck and even more when it is our wedding. Wedding may just be a mere ceremony but what matters is the life after. We could never make a compromise there even if all our believes are mere superstitions that has come down from centuries.
In this context mention may be made of the month of May which is considered unlucky for wedding to take place. The belief has come down from the Pagan times where in the start of summer the festival of Beltane is celebrated with the outdoor orgies. May was therefore not preferred to begin a married life. The month of May is also the time when the Romans celebrate the feats of the dead and the festival of the goddess of chastity. This has come down very seriously among the Victorians and they strictly avoid weddings in the month of May. Queen Victoria is believed to have stopped her children getting married in the month of May.
If June is the belief then lets all celebrate it with Juno. Be it May or June, the thing of prime importance is the wedding and the happiness of the couple in union.
