We set apart a lot of days for the people we love. We enjoy, party and make merry. But in all this let us not forget those who are not although related to us but have done a lot, even without our saying. America celebrates a host of holidays in memory of all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Nobody forced them into this act of sacrificing. The call was from within and the decision was their own. There lies the real meaning of their sacrifice.

Eulogize about one's country is nothing new. Every body does it. All of us love our country. But few get the opportunity to give up their life for their country. The memorial day is celebrated in the United States in memory of all those people who not just served their country but gave up their life in its service. Memorial day is celebrated on the last Monday of May every year. This day was initially celebrated in the memory of all those who died during the American Civil War but after the miserable First World War, this day started being celebrated for all those who lost their lives in any war. Going by the Washington time, 3oclock has been set aside to remember all the great souls. Cemeteries and memorials are visited on this day remembering all those who had very little interest of their own giving up their life for the nation.

A very similar day celebrated in the memory of the war soldiers is the Veterans Day. It is a day of holiday for all the Americans. This day is similar to the Remembrance Day celebrated in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. People of New Zealand and many other Commonwealth countries call it the Armistice Day. All war veterans are remembered on this day especially those of the world wars. This memorial day was initially famous as Armistice or the Remembrance Day which later got popular as Veterans Day. All government offices remain closed on this day but schools and business work as regular days. The look of a Veterans Day is similar to any other normal day but the only difference is the feeling that lies within.

When your country is in trouble, it needs its country men the most. All of us are patriotic in our own ways. We care for our country and promise to save it from our enemies. But when it comes to giving our life, very few manage to gather the courage. But mention may be made of all those who have sacrificed their lives for their country. They too had a family, wife, husband, children, parents whom they loved dearly. But it was a call from their mother land. This did not want to stop themselves.

There is nothing that we can do to bring our soldier brothers and sisters back but we can always remember them and their sacrifice. There are many things that we can do in their memory. The best would be to enlighten today's youth about the sacrifices that the youth of yesteryears had done. It's because of them that we have a beautiful and secure country today.

Apart from our great soldiers, we also remember all those people who have been a part of our lives but are no more with us today. We love them but we could not stop them from going away from us. But we can surely remember them and keep their memories alive.
