The first Legacy was equipped with a 2.0 L engine with all-wheel drive. In Japan, Subaru Legacy is famed for its agility and affordability. Next year, Legacy will be expanded to include the Spec B sedan. The upcoming model put emphasis on performance. Hence, it uses improve Subaru Legacy parts like drivetrain and suspension. It also borrows the electrifying engineering of Impreza WRZ STI.

Ted Lalka, Subaru of Canada's vice-president of product planning and public relations explains, "Subaru is a big advocate of grand touring. The Spec B is more of a GT model than a performance model like the STI, but has a lot of the same type of performance character. If a stock Legacy is a Spec A, then the Spec B has everything that comes with it, but with suspension and handling modifications."
