Tech Speak And Acroynms Made Easy
Patricia Brucoli
If you are new to Internet Marketing (IM), or learning any new application, for that matter, it is of great advantage to invest some time and start a list of acronyms and other mysteries of the ?English? language. Then find out what they mean and update and sort that list alphabetically, so you can refer to it.
This is no exercise in futility such as is the case if you are trying to understand a process and keep glossing over those words that don't mean anything to you yet. It would be so much easier to retain if you knew what each element referred to. There are far too many seemingly unrelated phrases and acronyms to be able to memorize them all, or to be able to fully comprehend what you are reading when half the words are ?Greek? to you.
Information is power. You will feel very powerful when you get done with most of the concepts and theories related to internet marketing, any technical operation, etc.. Anytime we overcome an obstacle, it is very gratifying, in that we are conquering new territory.
There is nothing that produces more anxiety than trying to work yourself through a learning curve with only half the information. Believe me, once you make your list, you will feel empowered and realize it is really much easier understanding concepts that can be readily identified by having more than initials.
One place you can look up some of these words and acronyms is wikipedia. It is a free online encyclopedia that is a great source of information. wikipedia.com . Of course, your search box is another at the ready ?encyclopedia? - I am often surprised that it seems to be able to find just about anything in the world.
There are speed reading theories that teach to browse the material first to get an overview. Then go back and really concentrate on what you are reading. It is at the overview stage where you could begin compiling your list. Make a quick pass to find out the meanings of the mysterious words and initials you encounter. Then jot it down and go to the reading every word with serious, concentration step. Refer to your list whenever you need to.
This practice really helps when starting a new job, as well. It sounds time consuming, but it is well worth the time. Hello, are you retaining the training? I hardly think so as each industry has their own set of acronyms and terminology. Try to follow along with the person conducting your orientation - they like people who take notes as this is an indication of interest and the desire to learn thoroughly, and hence to have the ability to be effective in their capacity.
Hopefully you won't get anyone like some I have had, who expect you to already know everything by osmosis, or who purposely use confusing ?in? jargon, and then when you look perplexed, give you one of those reassuring ?you'll never make it? expressions.
So, in closing, WYSIWYG, IMHO. (What You See is What You Get, In My Humble Opinion) ;o)
