5 Myths About Acne
Chester Ku-lea
Acne or acne vulgaris is a very common problem for teenagers and adults. It can be embarrassing, especially when breakouts happen at inappropriate times such as first dates or job interviews. Acne is formed when oil and dead skin cells clog up your pores. Although there is no cure, there are some things you can do to help clear up your skin. Here we are going to talk about some of the myths surrounding acne.
Myth #1 - Acne is caused by eating bad food - There has been numerous studies done on acne and nothing has been found to link it directly to diet. Although they haven't proven that eating greasy food and chocolate is the cause of acne, a healthy diet does contribute to a healthier body and healthier skin - so take this one with a grain of salt.
Myth #2 - Tanning will help clear acne - Not true. Although sun is needed for healthy skin as it provides us with vitamin d, too much sun will actually dry our skin. As our skin dries, our sebaceous glands produce oil called sebum, as well we shed more old skin cells in the sun - and together this combination is ideal for producing acne. A little sun good - a lot not good.
Myth #3 - Popping pimples is a good way to get rid of them. You've heard it before, popping is a no no. Popping pimples will result in pushing the bacteria further into the skin and spread it to other areas, which will create more of a mess. Also, you will run the risk of long term redness or scars or dents that may last forever.
Myth #4 - Washing your face more will get rid of acne faster. Washing your face more then twice a day will actually irritate it and cause more breakouts. Acne is not caused by poor hygiene (which is another myth). You should use a gentle cleanser such as Derma E Problem Skin Cleanser , but not soap.
Myth #5 - Acne can't be controlled. Although there is no known cure, acne can certainly be minimized. By using effective acne treatments, you can look forward to healthy, clearer skin sooner then by not using anything at all.
