Business environment the world over is changing at the speed of light. E-learning developers world over are facing the dilemma on how fast to design and deliver content to the desktop. In their rush to create content the usability aspect is often overlooked and the instant content which was hailed as instant competitive edge proves to be a bane due to its inaccurate content which actually lowered the employee performance.
Learners are demanding content which would entertain and engage them. The big challenge for the designers lies in identifying and satisfying the need of the learner. The designers must understand that the conventional won't work anymore and the adopting out-of-box approach runs the risk of learners dropping out if the content could not hold their interest.
We all have been amazed at the speed at which the pit crew in F1 race changes the tires. They did not acquire the skill overnight. Their success lies in analyzing the process to eliminate wasted time. E-learners too need to think and act in the same way.
Using rapid e-learning
Instead of asking employees to learn as much as possible in one go, Organizations can present the same data in much smaller modules so as to make learner comfortable and make learning environment pleasant. Learning is a process and it cannot be automated, learners must participate actively in learning and to do so learners must be encouraged to practice and hone their skills one at a time.
E-learning happens through the software, hence learners must be given time to be acquainted with the software before they actually proceed to learn. Infact learners must be educated on how to master the software first to provide an engaging experience for learners.
The need for speed is here to stay. As learning and development professionals, we need to develop new and innovative methods of providing rapid learning opportunities. Only then e-learning can be meaningful.
