What does it mean? Just when you thought we were all equal, that equality was to be mandated by an overwhelming, benevolent government, here I come stepping boldly into the fray, with the suggestion that in fact, we are all unequal. No two human beings are equal in all respects, not even identical twins. Not even God believes we are equal, which is why no two human beings have the same fingerprints, handprints, or voiceprints. Even eye scans can be used to distinguish certain characteristics. DNA also identifies each one of us.
You may be asking yourself where this is all going. What are we talking about when we talk about equality and inequality? Let us start at the beginning. Each of us is a separate individual creation of God. That means each of us is unique. The word unique stands by itself, needing no adjectives. Unique is unique. There is no such thing as very unique.
The word says it all. Unique means distinct, different, set apart, or one of a kind. Our human spiritual soul sets us apart. Like our fingerprint, it serves to identify us. The soul is our principle of life, having the two faculties of knowing and deciding. This is intellect and free will. Ok, so we are all different, one from the other. Where then does equality fit in?
God is equally approachable by each of us, His creatures. His grace and providence, His justice and mercy, are simply there for each of us and all of us to share in. We all, in the end, will be judged by God. His justice will be administered equally on all. How about the American Founding Fathers? What did they mean by equality?
They meant equality under the law and equality of opportunity. The law was not to play favorites and no one was to be excluded from the development of his natural talents within the framework of the law. Each person would be free to become the person they were meant to be.
One very obvious sign that this law of inequality was alive and well in America, was the rise of the middle class during the 19th and 20th centuries. American society was composed of people who had taken their natural places and not their mandated places. We had become a fluid society and individuals were free to rise to the top or sink to the bottom. We were free to succeed or fail.
Today we are seeing a morbid departure from this natural law of inequality. We now have a massive federal bureaucracy legislating artificial equality between unequal persons based on false notions of freedom. These pathetic notions are the result of moral, spiritual, theological, philosophical, and political bankruptcy.
Our civilization suffers irreparable harm from these ill advised adventures into the land of intellectual bankruptcy. Forced equality becomes a kind of religion for the ignorant. Suddenly those who believe in equality, become equal in goals and performance. They become mediocre producers, mediocre mothers and fathers, mediocre students, and mediocre politicians.
Throughout our history it has been our recognition of unequal talents that has led to unequal rewards and unequal production. In short, those who could became those who did, because they were those who would. Unless there is recognition and reward, most men will not make the effort to produce. Nor will they become what they are fully capable of producing or becoming.
One of the weapons in the bureaucratic arsenal of equality is the graduated income tax. Forced on Americans in 1913, this Communist tool for the subjugation of a free people has worked wonders on the road to serfdom. Just think of this for a moment. The enslavement of a free people becomes a reality when everyone is reduced to a common denominator.
If you are lazy and stupid, you need not worry, for we will take from those who have, and give it to those who have not. This is what the graduated income tax accomplishes and it has always been one of the parts of the Communist platform for the overthrow of a free people. This same graduated income tax is a tool used by politicians to promise free gifts to those who have not, from those who do.
Throughout history, the greatest criminals have come from the ranks of those who have had vast government power. It is high time the American people took back the reigns of power and hold accountable all elected officials and politicians accountable to the chains of the Constitution.
