The surgery is the only treatment to remove the appendix(appendectomy).Peritonitis appears when the appendix ruptures and spreads infection to the abdomen.The patient may wait for several hours at home or in the hospital for a surgery decision arrives.The surgery can be done by one of two ways-laparoscopic or traditional.

The doctor will establish which type is right for each patient.3 or 4 small cuts or incisions are made in laparoscopic surgery and one larger incision in an appendectomy case.The majority of people feel better immediately after surgery.If there is an infection in the abdomen the patient should stay in the hospital longer.(Iv)fluids and antibiotics will be included in the treatment.If the patient have health problems will need a longer hospitalization.

Surgery is sometimes recommended only when the appendicitis is present.The chances of a ruptured appendix may be eliminated by surgery.Unfortunately the appendicitis cannot be treated at home but only by surgery.To notice the existence of an appendicitis the following factors should be watched:the pain from appendicitis which often starts in the center of the abdomen and moves to the lower right quadrant,a vomiting sensation,a fever of up to 102 grades(38.9 grades).

When there is appenditicitis a patient should not take laxatives or eat solid food.People leave hospital 1 to 3 days after surgery.In the case with people who have laparoscopic surgery the activities become normal in less than 2 weeks and for those with a traditional appendectomy the activities are normal in 3 weeks.Once arrived at home the patient should verify if there are infections provided from the incisions.A doctor should be called when fever,redness,swelling,pus or pain in the lower abdomen occur and also when the patient is not able to eat food after 5 days.

Patients need a special attention after the surgery such as different kind of treatments provided to help him to recover faster.
