Madrid and Milan banned ultra-thin models from their fashion week runways late last year. Now the country that has always boasted healthy beauty, has started replacing window-display mannequins so that none is smaller than size 38 (size 6 in the U.S.). Spain has even begun a program to make clothing sizes standard between all stores, so a given size will fit the same way no matter who sells it.
There has been a steady increase in the number of eating disorders among young Spanish women. The program is aimed at changing the perception that only super-skinny women are fashionable. What do you think about this statement and Spain's efforts? Hopefully more countries follow suit. In the meantime, the skinny model debate will surely rage on?
