(1)Find an Affiliate product to promote.

The quickest way to pick a product to promote is by going to http://clickbank.com/marketplace.html and click on any catagory. arrange the products by "gravity" and your looking for products with a gravity of between 10 - 70, as a general rule anything over 70 and the product is being marketed well, anything below 10 and the product has yet to prove itself. Get a list of say 10 products. Now go through that list one by one clicking through to the sales page of each product, finding out if the sales copy looks persuasive, benifit driven, has a sales feel to it.
