This needs to be the start of your foray into internet marketing. Write a list of possible subjects that you are interested in. Check and see if people search for related information on your possible topics (called niches) and how much competition there is.
2. Formulate The Plan
Identify the areas that you can make money through by researching narrower topics and checking for possible products to sell. You can then do a paper sketch of what you want a visitor to do when they get to your site and how your sales funnel will work. If this is your first site I would recommend a basic site that captures your visitors names and email addresses in exchange for a free e-course using an autoresponder as this gives you time to establish trust and credibility with subscribers before they buy and gives you the chance to sell more than one product over time.
3. Design Your Website Layout.
If you have completed the first 2 steps properly this should be a relatively straightforward process. Keep the initial plan quite basic with no more than 5-10 pages. It's easy to add pages over time and your site will grow organically with fresh content this way. Search engines love this. Don't try and design a 300 page site that takes you 6-months to complete before going live. Build small and add after testing and tracking what actually works for you.
4. Build Your Site.
If this is your first site I can understand how daunting this may sound. The truth is that if you use a good program then individual pages are actually quite easy. You'll find that building a site is much like using a modern word processor. Just format your text and add any images in the same manner. As long as you keep it simple it's easy to find out how to do little bits of code manipulation to achieve your aims.
5. Get Your Site Live.
My research shows that lots of people who want to make money online buy books, guides and courses on how to 'make millions' but never actually get their site live. It's actually not as difficult as you may imagine. You have a domain, some space where your pages are hosted and simply tie these together. Get your first site live as quickly as possible. You'll learn how this process works, see that it isn't so bad and will be able to tweak it as you learn more.
Building a website to make money need not be a difficult and time consuming process. The key is to get started as quickly as possible and get a site live. Test and track everything that you do and you'll know which areas to concentrate on as they bring you the most money and which areas need some work.
