Blogs are publications on the internet - it is about people (we called them 'logger') who write or create content in regarding their interest, ideas, thoughts, and opinions. Some people use blogs as personal diary that describes their everyday lives.
Speaking of corporate blog, what is it about then?
A corporate blog is a type of blog that is published with the support of an organization, which through using blog method to reach to their goals, such as marketing and selling their products and services.
If you ever read any organization's blog, you will find many of them creates a blog is aiming to strengthen the relationships with their important target groups, at the same time positioning themselves as industry experts, in the other words, they are sharing their knowledge with others about the industry they're in.
In addition, from business perspective, in general, corporate blogs is used as an advertising channel, much like TV ads, print ads, audio ads and so forth.
However, it is not the only reason for why companies use blogs, there also have some other reasons involved, and one of the main reasons is to create stronger relations with target groups.
To help you understand more in terms of why corporate blogging, here are some other reasons:
1. Companies that want to position themselves as the leader in the industry. So they are knowledgeable on the topic they are writing.
2. Just as a person, companies not only want to sell the products or service, they also want to have and build a more personal relationship with their customers. They want to interact with their customers, gathering information and receive reliable feedback on how their customers say about their products or services.
3. It is a great way for employees or project members to keep in touch with each other, discuss how to make the project or product better. Also, because the nature of blog post is informal, so people in the organization can converse just like friends, they can place their opinions about the topic and express their ideas to make things better.
On the other hand, regarding to the type of corporate blogs, basically there six of them, each of them has its own characteristics and different styles.
1. Sales Blog
The purpose of sales blog is to advertise or sell products or services. The organization itself has to write the blog.
The target group of this type of blog is potential clients or customers and people that are directly involved with the publishing organization.
2. Relationship Blogs
The purpose of this type of blog is to create and strengthen relationship with target groups; the size of the target group people in this group is smaller than the sales blog.
3. Branding Blogs
The purpose of this blog is to strengthen the brand or profile of the publishing organization or the people in it. The blogger is usually the individuals in the organization that supported by the organization. The target groups in this blog are the same as those of the relationship and sales blog.
4. Knowledge Blogs
The purpose of this blog is to give employees information, which related to their work, it also about organizations news, business intelligence as well as those ongoing projects. The blogger is usually the organization itself or someone within the organization that assigned to do the task. The target groups for this blog are all employees that with a specific interest.
5. Collaboration Blogs
This blog is used to provide a working team with a tool for research, collaboration and discussion organization's ongoing projects and ideas. The blogger and target group for this blog is the team itself.
6. Culture Blogs
Culture blogs is use to strengthen organization's culture. Often time, the content of this type of blog concerns social or non-work related character. It creates personal relationships between the employees no matter what their positions in the organization.
So basically, corporate blogging is mainly use for strengthen the relationship between customers and employees of an organization, at the same time it helps company build up teamwork, motivate employees working efficiency and improve the productivity.
