One reason for this is the misconception that pros have perfect putts.
There is a second reason for this inner pressure to putt perfectly. We remember our near misses on the green but forget our mistakes out on the fairway.
Turn your quiet disappointment into some practice routines because you can improve your putt.
Get the use of a flat (very flat) green where you can work on your putt without having to also practice adjusting for break and slope at the same time. (This simple reduction of your circumstances down to the one thing you want to focus on is a key to succeeding.)
Now square the face of your putter to your line. And hit the ball.
Sounds simple, doesn't it. But this is the single biggest mistake poor putter make. So don't be lulled into dismissing my recommendation too quickly.
Repeat this. Keep at it. Until you get virtually every one in the hole.
As you repeatedly hit the ball square on, you'll notice your confidence levels rise. And the effect of that on your score card out on the course will be obvious to all.
