American Idol boasts the largest audience in the history of the United States. It seems like everyone I've ever met not only watches the show, but is passionate about it. This is the beauty of American Idol. People can grab on to a specific contestant and root for them as the season progresses. They are characters in a sense, but quite unlike ones on normal TV. You can't predict what they will do, how they will sing on a given night, or when they'll be going home. American Idol is wholly unpredictable and, as a result, we fans grow attached.
