Ajanta and Ellora : Ajanta caves, the 29 caves adorned with exquisite wall - paintings and sculptures depicting scenes from the life of Buddha, are located 104 km from Aurangabad. The caves date back to 200 BC to 600 AD. Ellora caves, the finest specimens of cave - temple architecture, are located 28 km from Aurangabad and comprise of in all 34 Buddhist, Hindu and Jain caves, carved out of a hillside, dating from seventh century onwards.
