This modern art center is named after French President Georges Pompidou who lived from 1911-1974. The seeds for the Pompidou Center were planted in 1969, when President Pompidou presented the idea of the creation of a new modern art institution in Paris. A competition was launched in order to find a suitable project for such an institution. Architects Richard Rogers, Renzo Piano and Gianfranco Franchini were chosen as the creators of this innovative project that was inaugurated in 1977, following President Pompidou's death.
Pompidou Center Design
The Pompidou Center is located in the Beaubourg neighborhood of Paris and is therefore also sometimes known by this name. Visitors to the Pompidou Center will quickly notice that it appears to have all its workings on the outside of the building, leaving room on the inside for more works of art. The various features on the outside are coded according to color. It is interesting to note that this creation did arouse a great deal of opposition from Parisians in the early days. However, today this attraction is presented with pride by many locals to visitors. This is an appealing venue for tourists who also find that the Pompidou Center's plaza is usually swarming with visitors, street artists and entertainers.
Riches of the Pompidou Center
The Pompidou Center's treasures include a modern art museum, public library, movie theater and cafe. The collection of works at the art museum includes modern art, contemporary art and temporary exhibitions. It should be noted however that the magnificent and unusual sight of the Pompidou Center itself is an important part of the experience. The Pompidou Center attracts thousands of visitors a day that may wonder at its appearance and design and marvel at its features, such as the outside escalators. These escalators that are situated on the exterior of the building present wonderful views of Paris.
Selecting Accommodation in Paris
For travelers who prefer to choose a place to stay during their vacation according to the sites they wish to visit, the Pompidou Center is located in a convenient and accessible part of Paris. As is the case with many locations around the world, hotel rooms right in the heart of things in a central part of a city are usually more expensive than accommodation that may be found in the outskirts. Tourists to the romantic city of Paris may select suitable accommodation from a range of hotels and guest houses to vacation rentals.
Wherever a traveler to Paris may choose to spend the night, the Pompidou Center is certainly a site that should not be missed. Offering delights from architectural wonders, art exhibitions and cafes to street performers and artists, the Pompidou Center and adjoining plaza appears to have it all
