1. Pele - Many folk will give the top spot to Pele, and in my view this is a good choice. Born into a place of famine and learning to play on the streets of his home country he trained hard to be the best in the world and his on pitch displays were a great way from being monotonous and boring. At the age of just 16 he completed his first appearance in the Brazilian league and was then offered a spot in the Brazil World Cup squad of 1958 where they finally went on to lift the trophy.
2. Maradona - Who was raised in Argentina and became famous for his spells at Boca and Napoli. He was recognised for that famous "Hand of God" goal that eliminated England in the 1986 World Cup Quarter Final.
3. Cruyff - Was arguably of the most brilliant players of his era and all time, he was an extraordinary dribbler of the ball and three time world footballer of the year. Cruyff also pioneered a method of football recognised as Total Football where players moved around the pitch interchanging their positions on a regular occurrence.
4. Beckenbauer - Had a tactical mind and was renowned for his performance that enhanced the game and his teams. It is strange for a defender to reach the top five but Beckenbauer's play and intelligence of the game puts him above many in the world.
5. George Best - A phenomenon to the footballing world and a player that dazzled, set up and finished to a world class standard. His vision, dribbling skills and rapid pace could take him past a range of the world's best defenders and leave them in his wake.
