Udaipur is a city of the Rajasthan State in India. This city is also the municipal council of the Udaipur district, and also the historical capital of the past Mewar Kingdom. The city of Udaipur is the administrative headquarters of both the Udaipur division and district. The city is often referred to as ?the city of lakes? because of their many beautiful lakes. Some of these are lakes Fateh Sagar, Pichola, Swaroop Sagar, and the Udai Sagar.
Udaipur is not only reputed for its natural attractions, but also known for its palaces built back from the Rajput era. Some of the palaces in Udaipur are now converted into extravagant hotels. A great example such is the so-called ?Lake Palace.? This towers and covers the entire island within the Pichola Lake.
Lake Palace was originally called ?Jag Niwas.? It took almost three years to build before it was launched in the year 1746. This palace is made solely of marble. The Lake Palace is now possessed by the Taj Group of Hotels and is now a luxury hotel.
Udaipur enlists several of their attractions worth seeing. First is the Jag Mandir, an island within the Pichola Lake. This is a very famous spot because of its garden patio. Shah Jahan took refuge in this island when he decided to hide from his father out of repulsion.
Second is the City Palace and Museum is also called the Pratap Museum. There are various antiquities in display here. The paintings Mewar are also seen here. Turban paintings of Khurram, the royal prince and the one who established the world-renowned Taj Mahal is displayed in the museum as a token of appreciation and friendship of a certain Maharana Khazan Singh. This museum is just next to the famous Fateh Prakash Palace wherein it houses mirror and glass works.
Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal is another museum, which concentrates on folk arts. This place also hosts different forms of puppet shows in its own auditorium.
Dudh Talai is another option to see in Udaipur. The place is literally a Rock Garden. It is a great place to just sit and enjoy the view of the city. You can catch the sunset in the Pichola Lake. Another tourist attraction in the Dudh Talai is the Musical Fountain manufactured by the Yagnich Mechanical Engineering Works.
Shilpgram is a crafts village situated along the northwestern portion of the city. This village annually hosts a so-called ?crafts fair? which is considered as one of the largest trading events in India. Many people from different places gather here to take part in this once a year fair to display their crafts work and art.
Neemach Mata Temple is situated on the green hills of the Dewali. The temple has both an uphill slope and stairs to climb it. It is about an 800-meter walk.
Moti Magri or Maharana Pratap Memorial is at the peak of the Pearl Hill or the Moti Magri over the lake of Fateh Sagar. This is where the remains of Maharana Pratap, a great Rajput hero, were laid to rest. A bronze statue of this Rajput hero can be seen in this memorial. Marana Pratap is seen striding on a horse named ?Chetak.?
Gulab Bagh and Zoo is also another popular attraction. This site is a rose garden. Maharaja Sajjan Singh built this garden. It is situated in close proximity to the palace on the eastern portion of the Gulab Bagh and Zoo Pichhola Lake.
