In the past kids played with toy guns while playing games like cops and robbers, or cowboys and Indians. The parents were not bothered, as they thought it was just harmless games. This topic has emerged into a hot discussion among various psychologists, parents, law enforcement officials, and behaviour therapists. Parents and teachers should be able to educate the kids about discouraging violence and war. Doing so will enlighten kids with the fact that guns are meant for defence, and are supposed to be used only by concerned individuals -- it is not a play thing. Even though parents don't buy the kids a play gun, kids can make one with the help of sticks and other materials.

Kids can't be blamed of using a toy guns as they always have the nature to worship and imitate the action heroes of movies. Parents have a major role in diverting their kid's interests to things which are not violent. They have to restrict the media advocating violence and try to inject peace and humanity in their little ones to become best citizens of tomorrow. Educate the kids by the parent or teachers about the difference between real and imagination.

A controversy to this debate is that once you ban something from your child, that kid will get more attracted towards that item. So it is better to give your child a toy gun and see if he loose interest in it after a day or two. A parent can divert the attention of his kid by highlighting some other play item and convince them why he doesn't want his kid to play with a play gun. Kids may play with toy guns at their friend's houses with the known fact of why such a toy is absent at their house. Some times they may even educate their friends of the bad effects of violence.

With proper communication between parents and kids, convincing can be made easier. For that, parents have to spend a lot of time with kids. Talk with the kids freely and sensibly. Toy gun can't be given the responsibility of all violence found in teenagers. The violent behaviour of the kids arrives from different factors. Family relationships have a major role in child's behaviour. Children who turn into violence later have been identified that the characteristics can arrive from a deep frustration and lack of caring .The family background of most of these kids reveals that the kids doesn't have a healthy bonding with their parents.

Too much exposure to violence should not be allowed to kids because most of the kids get influenced by the action movies which promote violence. The basic character moulding for a human being happens during his childhood days. As the media which promotes violence can't be banned completely kids should be educated about the harmful effect of violence and make them aware of other interesting programmes which are educational too. Before gifting any toys to the kids, the parents should try the toy first. They also need to monitor how the kids are playing with it. One can find out likes and habits of his kids by participating with them during the play time.
