Why We Celebrate Memorial Day
Erin Jump
People of all ages in America celebrate Memorial Day. Aside from remembering our loved ones, and others who have died in battle for our country, the day, as with many holidays, can symbolize the start of fun and the end of all kinds of responsibilities, as a day off for many. In fact, aside from the old traditions that we have been following for this special weekend, Memorial Day is the first time in the year when almost all of us break out of our cooking habits. And you can, too.
You can make amazing party favors by opting for personalized fortune cookies. They are the lightest of all the desserts one can serve. Apart from just the taste, fortune cookies have, as the name implies, written fortunes inside them, and even though the fortunes are just meant for fun and they seldom come true, they can certainly result in a good party.
About Fortune Cookies
Although many things in today's world are made in China, one thing that does not find a place on that list is the fortune cookie. History says that these cookies were America's invention, by a Japanese man (Makoto Hagiwara - the man behind the landscaping of San Francisco's Japanese Tea Garden), in California. Chinese restaurant owners latched onto fortune cookies, and it's now a norm to serve them after meals.
Fortune cookies have a delicious taste, and the fortune inside makes them fun as well. As a matter of fact, they are said to be an adaptation of a Japanese sweet treat called 'Tsujiura Sembei'. Being sweet in taste, they were adapted by Makoto for people in the USA. When he offered them to the frequent visitors of the tea garden, he inserted 'Thank You' notes in them. The Chinese restaurant owners saw this, and they had fortunes inserted into them in place of 'Thank You' notes.
Nowadays, fortune cookies typically contain lucky numbers like a lottery, and some hackneyed fortunes. It is, however, entirely possible for you to insert your own thoughts and personalize the cookies for any occasion you want to, including your Memorial Day party. You can, if you have a creative turn of mind, think of some fortunes yourself and add them to the cookies, which will make for an interesting read. Fortune cookies have become very popular as party favors, of late. For a Memorial Day celebration, you can now order customized fortune cookies that are red, white, and blue in color.
Some facts about fortune cookies:
* They are very tasty and would fit well into any kind of event that you might be having, such as a Memorial Day event.
* They can be served to the guests as desserts, or even while they are departing. They would love it.
* They can be coated with any kind of chocolate, be it dark chocolate, white chocolate, white chocolate with orange flavor, and so on.
* They can be decorated with all types of goodies.
* They are generally packed in their own cellophane packaging, or if you desire, you can pack them in transparent Chinese food containers as well.
So go ahead and make your Memorial Day celebration even more special with personalized red, white and blue fortune Cookies. Enjoy!
