Since his success and with his story being broadcasted around the world, thousands of pixel advertising sites have appeared all over the internet, all with the same idea, to try and make a lot of money for the site owner, but will any emulate his success?, I doubt they will.
You see, when he launched his site it was a first, an excellent new idea, there was nothing like it around at the time plus after making his first $1000, which was only 10 sales, he spent that $1000 on a press release which was picked up by a technology media company and this then generated more interest which made his site even more popular which generated even more money which he put back into promoting. In fact he spent around $50,000 in total getting publicity for his site and the rest as they say is history.
Now this is why I think thousands of others who are trying to emulate his success end up in failure. For anyone else to succeed, firstly they need sales which is now harder and harder to come by as the internet is now saturated with pixel site ideas. Then they need publicity to attract visitors to get the sales but to get publicity they need money and if someone is starting off with nothing hopeing to sell pixels to make enough money and then to put it into press releases etc, it is now virtually impossible to do so. The only way I can see someone doing well is if they are brave enough and have a hell of a lot of money to launch a site and to pay for publicity before making enough cash to cover it but then again pixels is not new anymore so even this will be hard to attracted buyers.
This brings me on to other website advertising ideas that have recently been launched. There a lot of links, names, pictures, words, all sorts of ideas other than pixels that have appeared recently all trying to make a lot of money. Now these sites have more of a chance of being a success as some are very creative and unique but its still down to one thing publicity.
I had an idea and launched an advertising site last year and with the money I made I put back into press releases which did work, I made over 100 sales from spending around $100.00 on press releases. Needles to say others jumped on the bandwagon and other sites with the same idea started up but after realizing that my idea wouldn't have been very practical I decided to change the idea and re-launched my site just over a week ago.
I only know of one other site very similar to my idea that is around at the moment so maybe I have a good change of doing quite well, I will just have to wait and see. The only money I will spend on publicity is the money I generate from sales I make. Who knows I may be writing again in a few months time telling everyone about my success.
The way I see it is if you want to be a big success with a website forget about selling pixels, its been done and you are likely to fail and be out of pocket. You must have a unique idea that no one else has thought of and be willing to spend a lot of money on press releases and publicity. I believe that even if someone has the worst looking site in the world but it's a good idea if you publicize it, and get the visitors coming to look at your site, you will make sales and more likely to succeed but be prepared for hard work its not easy. There are probably hundreds maybe more ideas that would work but haven't been thought of yet so get thinking you could become the next dot com millionaire, but remember forget about pixels.
