What A Long Day
Jamie Hanson
Les Trois Vallees (literally: The Three Valleys) is the most famous and largest ski area in the For example, Courchevel 1550 (the first) lies at 1550 meters; Courchevel 1850 lies a bit lower but is close. Courchevel is about five ski resorts in one and is considered one of the best inter-linked resorts in the world. The names of each village then is Courchevel 1850, Courchevel 1650, Courchevel 1550, Courchevel Le Praz 1300 and La Tania (with no number). Some of the towns in the area never actually started as towns either-they were purpose built to attract and cater to skiers, though you wouldn't know this fa?ade upon a first visit. Courchevel was dreamt up in the 1930s with the intention of making it the best and biggest ski resort in the world. If you consider all the lifts and total land area, it may very well be.
Courchevel lies in the Savoy Department of France. There are millions of tourists who come annually to ski in this area, known the world over as the Three Valleys. The first intentions for Courchevel were to serve just the rich and wealthy. Today, however, many others can afford to come and ski here. And, they should want to with the 600 km of slopes, 180 ski lifts, 150 km of ski runs and all available with one ski pass. All these amenities can be done whether you're an expert, beginner or intermediate skier. There's just so much to choose from that you'll never not have a challenge or a slope to try.
A lot of the slopes in Courchevel France face the north. The slopes are always groomed and ready for your fresh wax. There are over five hundred snow cannons to keep you out skiing no matter what the weather brings. There are ski schools that can teach you the very basics to the very advanced, taking you out on some of the most challenging off-pistes trails you can find in this part of the world. If the guides can't assure you of this, then the ski lifts can-the resort almost guarantees that you'll never get caught in queue when wanting to ski. And, the prices for skiing Courchevel won't break your bank account either.
You can access Courchevel ski resort and the Three Valleys with payment of the following passes. A one day pass for adults is around ?31 and ?45 during the low and high season respectively; a child will cost ?23 and ?34 during the low and high season. A six day adult ski pass runs ?157 and ?225 during low and peak season; a child cost ?117 and ?169. It's possible to get a ski pass for the whole season, but the prices are based on a monthly standard and won't save you too much money if that is your goal. One of the best ways to really experience Courchevel and the Trois Vallees ski area is to come for a minimum of two weeks. Only then will you really have the chance to improve on certain slopes and then move on to harder ones. The costs may be very expensive but perfecting your ski skills is well worth any cost.
If you've got any amount of money, Courchevel has any line of accommodation-from hostel to luxury five-star spas, you'll get treated to what you pay for here. The five various towns offer a variety of places to stay and most of the hotels have a place to eat. As long as you stay in the area, too, you'll have plenty of options for restaurants, bars, clubs, discos and other activities. Odds are, however, that if you take advantage of all the skiing, you won't have much energy for much apr's ski options. But, if you do, then Courchvel does have a lot to offer the nigh owls of any group or family. Courchevel can be used as a place to get wild at night after a long day of skiing.
