About 25 years ago, I started my venture into the health and fitness industry. I eventually received my certification as a fitness trainer and did that for about 10 years. I thoroughly enjoyed helping my clients reach their health goals. It's a feeling of joy that I get to day as a hypnotherapist.
As a fitness trainer, although I was doing very well with 80-90% of my clientele, there were always those "hard" clients that would be doing everything right: working out, eating right - but was still having a hard time dropping off the weight or reaching other health goals. Fortunately, I was able to add Hypnosis to their program as it made the biggest difference.
So I went ahead and became a certified hypnotherapist and used my new found skills on my "difficult" clients and zoom! It was exactly what we needed. I was pleasantly shocked to see how started to make everything easier. Now, many fitness trainers would have been very happy with the success I had but still, there was still that 2 or 3 clients that couldn't reach their goals.
My colleagues and my employer advised me to simply relax because I was doing a great job with my list of clients. But, I wanted for all my clients to be successful. After about 9 years of fitness training I decided to focus my attention on building a hypnosis practice, so off I was transitioning my fitness clientele to my hypnosis clientele.
But, the same thing still happened in the Hypnosis world with weight loss clients. There were a few clients here and there that would be doing everything right - including exercising and still not getting any closer to their goals! Again, even though I was doing great work with the majority of my clientele I felt terrible when I couldn't help those few that were stuck, despite doing everything "right."
Then it hit me - Even though they were following their diets to the tee - even ones that were nutritionally supervised by a nutritionist, what if those diets weren't in line with their unique needs? Which brings me to the point of this blog?
You see, we have so much information coming at us from television and radio ads, even authority figures, that tell us this diet or that diet is the best diet out there, but what if that was just "brain washing" to get us to buy thier products, thus moving us away from our own internal voice for genuine health? After all, many of these so called experts were actually not the picture of health they claimed they could give us.
I've come to realize that the body is an amazing thing - especially because it is so well connected to the subconscious mind, and if we listen to the knowledge contained within our bodies we will find out what is most right for us, instead of allowing someone else to dictate what is right for us. When my clients started trusting thier bodies more and listening from within, it's as if it was the "key to the lock" they were looking for and weight started coming off. When this would happen it was like re-living those moments when I could help fitness clients reach thier goals that seemed so impossible for them.
So today, this is what I center my weight loss program on - bringing clients back to their natural instinctual health! Like Hippocrates said "The body's natural tendency is that toward health." We just have to clear the blocks and listen. However, sometimes we have to release layer upon layer upon layer of misguided perceptions and feelings they've had around food, before we could get them clear enough to listen to their true instinctual voice, but that's another topic for another time. One amazing thing that would happen consistently, after they were clear enough, is that their bodies would go back to natural whole foods - and once we got them off the fast food greasy synthetic foods, their bodies responded wonderfully, so much so, that they felt more energetic, vibrant and overall just happy and of course trim and healthy. Isn't that what it's all about?
Let's get back to basics - find that inner voice and listen to it! It will always tell you your truth.
