What Is Cold Weather
Tymon Hytem
Certain areas of the country, like in the Northeast and Midwest states, have a climate that is prone to extreme changes in weather conditions. These states have four distinct seasons. In certain parts of these areas it is not rare for temps to get below zero and getting into the 80's during the summer. So as you can see with these changes in temperatures it is important to make sure that homes in this area are well insulated. In this article you will find some answers that you are looking for in home insulation.
Home Insulation, by definition, refers to the types of materials, methods and processes used to reduce the speed of heat transfer. When using proper insulation in your home you will experience less noise and vibrations which can be very irritating. Another plus of using proper insulation is that it will decrease your energy bills. Once it is applied, it is permanent and no need to require any maintenance or upkeep.
If you feel you are spending too much money on your monthly energy then good insulation is the way to go for you. According to the Department of Energy, 44% of the energy used in the average American home goes toward heating and cooling. If the walls and floors are not properly insulated a large portion of your air will go right out the door. The Law of Thermodynamics proves that heat generally will move from a warmer to a cooler space. In other words, if your home is not insulated properly, your heat will rise up through the walls, into the attic and up out of the roof of your home. By insulating your home properly, this will block and prevent the heat from its natural mission of rising up to a cooler space. Then during those hot summer days when heat is trying to get into your air conditioned rooms the insulation blocks do just that it blocks the heat from coming into your home.
If you own or are looking to own an older home, it is likely that it will not have the proper type of insulation in it unless it has been recently updated. Even the newer homes out in the market today may not have the proper type of insulation. If you are purchasing a new home, it might be a good idea to make sure to upgrade the insulation with the builder. Or if you are already living in a newer home, it would be wise to add insulation to help save money and increase the resale value of your home.
If you are going to insulate your home then you will want to contact your local utility company for information on getting an energy audit. This will tell you how much energy your home consumes and what you can do to make your home more energy efficient. This is also something that if you do your research, you might be able to do yourself. It is definitely a wise suggestion for anyone who owns a home and wants to save money by making it more energy efficient.
