CBS' news about the upcoming season of Big Brother shook fans, in a good way that is. The network has been working hard on the drastic changes they plan to implement on the new season of the long-running reality series, and this served as a ploy to win back fans and reignite the flame of interest in those who have dropped the show completely. Admittedly, fans have been very disappointed in the past seasons and the new executive producer of the show, Allison Grodner, has made plans which go way beyond what fans expect for Big Brother 8.
It was recently announced that there would be the nightly Big Brother: After Dark, which features live and uncensored coverage from the Big Brother house, including nudity and profanity. Big Brother knocks at the audiences' voyeuristic sensibilities, thus being the reason why the European counterpart became such a big hit. It is about time that the US followed in their footsteps.
This massive effort collaborated by CBS, Big Brother Mobile, the online live feeds, After Dark and others seem to be the series' final chance to make it big in the US. In fact, the show was previously uncertain for renewal for an eight season, and when it did get a renewal, a new executive producer was placed, along with a bunch of massive changes.
Will America really go for the three-hour live show every night? Press releases from CBS say that most people subscribe to ShowTime also receive ShoToo, the channel that will air Big Brother: After Dark. Are fans who don't have ShoToo willing to spend a few bucks for the subscription or will they just stick to the free, low quality online feeds?
CBS is really hoping that these efforts won't go to waste, as they aspire to be the summer show in the US.
