Whitney Port The City
Douglas Scott
A long history and diverse culture India offers a wide array of places to see and things to do.
Visakhapatnam is a port city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the eastern shore of Indian tucked among the hills of the Eastern Ghats and facing the Bay of Bengal to the east.
From being a small fishing village in the nineteenth century it has grown into an industrial hub. Its saga began with the quest of British to find a suitable port that connects the rich mineral belt of Central provinces with the East Coast.
Visakhapatnam is predominantly Telugu speaking city. The Telugu spoken by the middle classes is a standard dialect with a good dose of English words, while a significant population who have settled down in the city from adjoining villages and neighbouring districts.
Visakhapatnam, or Vizag as it was often called, is the best tourism destination in Andhra Pradesh. From Lakes to cool Beaches, from beautiful Hill Ranges to Caves and Valleys, Visakhapatnam has them all. The district has many tourism spots that represent the Culture and Heritage of the true India.
Today, Vizag, as Visakhapatnam is known, is famous for its natural Harbour, Indias largest shipbuilding yard, the steel plant among the many industries, and of course the panorama of golden beaches against the backdrop of green mountains.
The best and the safest beaches in the entire South Coast of India. The R K Beach is considered the best place to have fun with water.
Children can find pure excitement and joy at the VUDA Park.
Other attractions on the Beach Road are the Visakha Museum and the Submarine Museum one of its kind in the country and the first Museum in Asia to be built off a Submarine.
The Keertana Vanamu Beach resort developed by VUDA gives you a pleasant stay.
The Water Boat rides, Theme Partks are additional attraction.
Bheemunipatnam is a beach town with good beach resorts, an ideal place spends long weekends.
A gorgeous nature preserve that many people in Vizag itself seem to be unaware of. The solitude and the peace that one can experience at Kambalakonda located within 20 minutes drive from the city centre is priceless. A nominal entrance fee of 10 Rupees is charged per adult. The greenery, the hiking trail and the fantastic view of the ocean from the rather flimsy viewing tower give a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
