The "P" In Procrastination Stands For...
Chris Rempel
But for some reason, it's so much "easier" to do pretty much anything else than to accomplish goals and experience wild success.
And it's strange, because both take the exact same amount of effort. It might not seem like it, but it's true.
I often find myself frustrated at times because of how "long" things take. But if I were to document my every activity throughout the day over the period of a week, I would begin to see that it wasn't the "things" that were taking so long...
Almost all of us struggle with procrastination - and yet it's probably the number one killer of most "work from home" businesses.
So why am I saying all this?
Tonight, at a gas station, I was reminded of how lucrative online business truly is, and how it really does represent a huge financial opportunity for thousands of people that wouldn't have had it otherwise.
Up here in Canada we have these "vacation for life" lotto tickets, where if you win, you get $1000 a week for 25 years.
I immediately thought - "give me 2 months, and I could set up some niche affiliate site to pull that off easy..."
And it's true - it's that easy, it really is. It's just a matter of actually DOING it.
But then I asked myself - "So why the hell don't I just do it!"
An extra $4000 a month sure couldn't hurt. I could lease a Ferrari, or make a weekly trip to Honolulu just for kicks.
But what I'm really getting at is that for some reason it's MORE appealing to just watch a movie or read another ebook or waste time online than it is to build a thrilling life beyond your wildest dreams.
I know that a lot of you can relate to what I'm saying?
So let's turn things around.
Think about how to beat procrastination - and give it some active thought. If you catch yourself "killing time", think of it as "stealing from yourself and your family".
Here are some practical ways to "beat" procrastination:
1. Only Focus on ONE Project at a Time.
Sometimes we get a false notion that having our fingers in a variety of different "pies" is going to add to our bottom line.
In reality, we simply become so mentally overwhelmed, over-worked and flat-out distracted that we simply spin our wheels in 4 different directions while accomplishing very little - if anything!
No, instead, we must focus on one thing at a time, make it as profitable as possible, set it up to run on "autopilot", and then move on to the next project.
In time, as your wealth and resources grow, you will a solid foundation - both financially and in terms of experience - to "spread out" into simultaneous projects by outsourcing the work to others.
2. Make a Plan, and Stick to It...
Yes, you will stumble across thousands of opportunities, ideas and "sure-shots". Don't pursue any of them - stick to your original plan!
Simply write down the opportunities and "ideas" that come your way, and save them for later - once your current project is profitable and running itself perpetually.
Speaking from my own experience, I've often returned to old "sure-shot" ideas months later and said to myself, "I am SO glad that I didn't do that..."
Stick to your guns, and only waver from your plans if it's obvious that it's simply not going to work. (Proper research is a whole other article...)
3. Focus on the Long Term - but make Short Term Goals!
Nothing's worse than slaving away at a project if your plan is to only see results months or even years down the road.
Yes, it's good to think "long-term" - but you WILL burn out if you work tirelessly on something without reaping any short-term benefits from it.
Think of ways to adjust your strategy so that you can realize short-term "now" results from the effort you are currently expending.
This will keep you motivated, and it will KILL your tendency to procrastinate - especially once you physically see that your project is worth focusing on.
Procrastination is a silent killer.
But it can be beaten, through a dedicated, consistent and conscious effort.
So get rid of your "extra" projects. Are they doing anything for you right now?
Probably not.
Focus on what you know is going to work, and finish it completely.
Get to work today - and do things in such a way that you will reap results SOONER rather than later.
It's time to "kill" Procrastination, once and for all...
Now go and get to work!
(By the way, the "P" in Persistence stands for "Prosper".)
