Whatever school of thought you're in related to autism, or whichever traditional or alternative treatments you've read about or tried, there is hope.

Zeolite: That's the word we're talking about.

While there has been a significant increase over the past few years in the successful treatment of autism patients using chelators (substances that remove heavy metals from the body--metal toxicity suggests relation to autism), a more potent, natural geological chelator called zeolite, has shown extremely promising results.

A new study, published on May 15, 2007 in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health by Geier and Geier, clearly suggests there is a direct causal link between mercury exposure from Thimerosal-preserved vaccines and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Thimerosal (49.55% mercury by weight) is a highly toxic mercury compound used as a preservative in some OTC and prescription drugs, including most flu shots given to pregnant women, infants, children, adults, and the elderly.

In the June 2007 issue of the same journal, a study by J. B. Adams, titled "Mercury, Lead, and Zinc in Baby Teeth of Children with Autism Versus Controls" was published. According to the authors, "Children with autism have 3 times as much mercury in their baby teeth." They continue with a recommendation: "...Removal of heavy metals may help reduce autistic symptoms, especially in young children." The supplement is purified clinoptilolite, a type of zeolite, suspended in solution.

Zeolite is produced when lava meets ocean water. It is one of the few negatively charged minerals in nature, and has a microscopic honeycomb-like crystalline structure of cavities and cages. Waste water studies show that this structure has the ability to attract, trap, bind and remove various heavy metals and toxins such as mercury, lead and arsenic.

In fact, zeolite products, in one form or another, have been safely used for years to clean tainted drinking water (for example, at the Chernobyl disaster site). Zeolite molecular sieves are on the FDA's GRAS List (Generally Recognized As Safe), and are harmlessly excreted from body after they've done their work. Zeolite filters waste and toxins harmlessly out of the body, naturally.

One particular website, zeoliteautismstudy.com , contains links to several case studies and anecdotal evidence supporting zeolite products. The site gives information about an upcoming study on children with autism, using this particular zeolite product (though at the manufacturer's request, they've taken the name of the zeolite product from the site).

We live in society that's growing more poison with each passing day. What else could explain the surge in cases of autism? Most experts agree on the toxicity factor when it comes to the disease.
