Suction lipectomy, lipoplasty or liposculpture are different names for liposuction.

The amount of fluid injected is less than the amount of fluid in the superwet technique.

The kind of liposuction that is similar to the wet technique is called the "Super-Wet" technique. In this technique, the amount of fluid inserted is less than that of the tumescent technique. Less liquid injected is an advantage to the patient because it requires less time for the swelling to go down.

The tumescent kind is also known as a standard liposuction technique (wet technique) wherein the fat is infiltrated with tumescent fluid (such as saline, epinephrine, lidocaine). In this case, the amount of fluid injected is 3 to 4 times the volume of the super-wet liposuction. After the fat is filled up with fluid, the fat is pulled out with tiny rods or by making small incisions.

Ultrasonic liposuction starts with injecting the medical fluid, then the fat is liquefied by high-frequency ultrasonic energy, emitted from a thin rod. The fat is removed by using the rod as a tiny pipette. Ultrasound methods are not very well studied and have been discontinued by most practitioners.

One more method worth mentioning is the superficial syringe liposuction is performed on the layer of fat just underneath the skin. In this method, a syringe is used to withdraw fat instead of vacuum suctioning pumps that thereby result in less blood loss and faster post-operative recovery.
