The History Of Prague

Prague is situated in the center of Europe. Prague itself borders the countries of Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland. While still quite large, compared some European countries it is small with its population of 1.21 million people. People of this area speak the language that is known as Czech. The currency of Prague is Czech crown that has the symbol of Kc.
Prague is also known as Praha in Czech and is the capital and largest city of Czechoslovakia and is the commercial and cultural center of the country. In the past it generally served as a residence of the Holy Roman emperors from the 14th and 17th Centuries. It has long been called the center of education and the arts.
The city is the hub of a diversified industrial area where the leading industrial activity is manufactured of many kinds of iron and steel goods. Among these things are the railroad rolling stock, automobiles and some kinds of electrical machinery. The city of Prague is also famous for other things as well. Other products made in the city are beer, clothing, some chemicals and glassware. Prague is also the center of the Czech book-publishing industry.
Prague has been called one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It is rich in historic buildings in the Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles of architecture and its many churches and cathedrals have given it the name of ?city of 100 spires?.
History of Prague
Settlements grew up around Hrandcany castle and other fortifications built there in the 18th century A.D. German settlers established Old Town in 1232 as a trading center, and Mala Strana was founded in 1257. As the capital of the powerful kingdom of Bohemia. The city grew rapidly and quickly became the second largest city in Europe in the 14th century. The city of Prague continued to grow of the centuries and became one of the leading industrialized cities in Europe.
