Lasik Facts #7
William S. Goldstein, Md
This is not an easy decision....you need to take it seriously!
But how will you decide?
Hopefully you have already read the first 6 articles in this series, and have gathered some information that will help you choose a surgeon. All of the article up until know have talked mainly about safety and accuracy.
In this series of articles, you will learn may things that surgeons don't want to discuss with their patients. Some of these facts will amaze you! Some may make you uncomfortable. All of them will give you more information, and an informed patient is a happy patient!
LASIK Fact Number Seven: Not All Surgeons Have YOUR Best Interests in Mind
My practice philosophy is simple; treat each patient as if they were a family member. IN this way, I always put my patients' needs first, and will only perform surgeries that best fit the needs of each individual. So I spend quite a lot of time thinking about whether I would have a procedure done on my eyes, or if my brother, sister, or parents needed anything, would I recommend it to them. Does this sound familiar? It is simply a variation of the old 'Golden Rule', "Do Unto Others As You Would Have Done To You". If you look at it that way, it makes it very simple to recommend the proper course of action to any patient!
Along those same lines, when I have needed surgery in the past, I have always been very careful in selecting my surgeon. I expect my surgeon to take care of me personally. I would never go to a cost-cutting/cookie cutter surgeon for ANY of my medical care, and certainly not where my eyes are involved! So when a surgeon is not involved in some aspect of your care, you have to ask yourself....whose interests are foremost in that surgeon's mind?? Yours, or their broker's??For more info, go to Dr. William Goldsteins website, , or find more articles at . LASIK surgery in Michigan, and Implantable Contact Lens info is also available.
