The first step is to check with an eye doctor to see if you qualify for this type of surgery. There are some things that will hurt your chances. One example is if your eyes are unstable. You need consistent vision.
There are other factors that might prevent you from having a surgery of this type. If you have had any eye diseases you would be concerned. Also, any eye injuries could be a consideration.
You need to do some things to prepare. If you wear contacts you need to stop using them for some time before the surgery. This is necessary because contacts affect the shape of the cornea.
The day before the procedure you need to quit using any chemicals on your body: makeup, lotions, mascara, etc. This is to control possible infections.
The operation itself takes about a half an hour. You will not stay overnight in the hospital. So, you will need to have someone available to drive you home.
During the surgery you will be asked to focus on a point of light. The ability to do to this, for a minute or so, is required to do the surgery. You will be tested to make sure this won't be a problem.
Once your eye is fixed on this point the laser will be turned on. Then the laser will remove corneal tissue to correct the shape of the eve. A computer has been programmed to control the laser to vaporize the desired tissue.
After the operation you will need to wear a shield over the eye to prevent rubbing while healing occurs. The flap that was cut to expose the tissue that was removed must heal.
You won't want top do any hard contact, like boxing, for at least a month or two. Keeping chemicals out of the eyes is also important. This will help prevent infections.
You will take artificial tears for some time after surgery to keep moisture in your eyes. As far as results, you should see improvements immediately. There can be bouts of clarity followed by blurring until things stabilize.
