The transition from kids to teenagers can be difficult for most youngsters and their parents. Parents for one have to accept the painful reality that their have grown into young adults and the corresponding pressure from peers, media, and growing demands of school work. This stage can be full of conflicts especially if parents fail to understand and accept the changes that their children undergo. Here are a few ways for parents to deal with this stage:

1. Realize that their attitudes will change.

Teenagers go through a stage wherein they can be disrespectful and rude. They also show unpleasant attitude. However, do not fret because this is just a stage they will surely outgrow.

2. Understand that teens need to belong.

It is normal for teenagers to ask for latest gadgets or because they need to feel that they belong.

3. Trust them.

Trust your children that they are responsible enough for their actions. DO not be overly protective of them. Chances are they will appreciate your trust and they will even thank you for it.

4. Don't believe that they no longer need your help since they're grown ups. Always be available to lend them a helping hand. The truth is that teenagers appreciate it when their parents are concerned in what's going on with their lives.

5. Allow them to grow up as individuals.

Remember that some of life's most important lessons are learned through mistakes. Let them have the confidence to solve their problems.
