Do you want your wedding to be a small, intimate event attended just by you, your intended, and the vicar's wife as a witness? Or, do you want a destination event for all your family and friends? Either way, you can make it a wonderful event that will be a memory to cherish forever.
But the first question you need to ask when you plan your distant wedding ceremony is, where will it be? There are dozens, if not hundreds, of places to choose from.
Why not try a beautiful tropical wedding in Barbados, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, or St. Lucia? Or perhaps a Mediterranean dream wedding in France, Spain, Greece, or Italy.
If you and your fiance share a common ancestry, it would be incredibly romantic to stage your wedding in the land of your forefathers, complete with traditional dress and perhaps even a reception filled with native foods and dancing.
Weddings abroad can also be fabulous in locations such as Eastern Europe (Croatia or the Czech Republic), Africa (a South African safari), Asia (Cambodia or Sri Lanka), South America (Brazil is another great place for a beach wedding), or New Zealand or Australia.
Once you settle on where you want to have your wedding, it's time to decide how simple or elaborate you want it to be. There are many wedding planners who specialize in destination weddings, and companies who focus on weddings in all the places I mentioned above. They can help you find vendors for food, music, flowers, and more in your chosen destination. But remember, you also need to be aware that many destinations will require passports, visas, and vaccines for everyone.
Don't forget to plan your escape for a private honeymoon if you intend on inviting all your friends and relatives!
