Homemade Shampoos

Natural shampoo and conditioner is a refreshing change from store-bought shampoo and conditioner that contains unfamiliar ingredients, dyes, and perfumes. Commercial shampoo and conditioner may contain ingredients such as formaldehyde, glycols, ammonia, and cresol. Eggs are primarily known for its protein content. The rich sources of protein content in egg makes it a very good hair conditioner. Beat 2 egg yolk in a glass of hot water. Soak hair in the solution and leave it for an hour. Wash your hairs with warm water. To make Nana's egg shampoo, take 1 large egg separated and 3 Tbsp castile soap. Then in a bowl, beat egg white until foamy. Blend in yolk followed by the castile soap. Wet hair with warm water. Massage half the egg shampoo into scalp. Rinse well then massage remaining shampoo into scalp. Leave on hair about 1 min. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Avoid shampoos that include olefin sulfate, lauramide DEA, cocamide DEA, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, sodium C14-16 or cocamidopropyl betaine, as they tend to be too harsh.
A good base for natural shampoo is a mild herbal shampoo, which can be found in many health-food stores. Buy a soap-based shampoo made with coconut, soy, olive or palm-kernel oil. Another good choice is a herbal baby shampoo. Take 100 grams of dried Embellic myrobalan and soap nut. Mix it with 1 liter of water and soak it for 24 hours. After the ingredients are soaked properly, boil it and allow it to cool. Strain the solution and use it as a shampoo. This homemade herbal shampoo make your hair silky and shiny. It also brings tonicity to hairs. If you have skin allergies or are unsure about using any of the following ingredients or combination of ingredients, test the products on the inside of your elbow or wrist before washing or conditioning your hair. If there is any redness or irritation, discard the product and consider another option.
If you don't want to make a natural shampoo but want something mild, try diluting your normal shampoo by half with distilled water. To make Sandalwood shampoo take hundred grams of khus, two hundred grams of reetha, hundred grams of amla, hundred grams of char, hundred grams of shikakai, hundred grams of charilla, half teaspoon of sodium benzoate, eight teaspoons of sandalwood oil, two and half litres of water. After taking all the ingredients soak shikakai, khus, char, charilla, amla, reetha & water for a night. Boil this in the morning till half the quantity remains. Strain it and add sodium benzoate and sandalwood oil. Shampoo is ready. To make Neem shampoo just take one kilogram of gram flour, one kg of shikakai powder, two fifty grams of sandalwood powder and about four to five cups of neem leaves powder. Mix these ingredients and keep it in an airtight bottle. When needed for washing, soak two tablespoons of it in a cup of water, and then apply
