Some women consider a diamond a girl's best friend and will only buy the real thing. However not all of us have the luxury of being able to afford the real ones. This is where the very nice fake diamonds come into play. Throughout the years they have become quite realistic making it sometimes hard to distinguish between the real and the fake.

If you are able you might seek the advice of a professional jewellery but in the case you are not satisfied with what they believe or decide, here are some ways to test the jewellery yourself in order to determine if it is in fact real.

You might consider using a diamond tester where you can check all the diamonds aside from specific stones that the tester cannot reliably check. This electronic tester can tell you if you have a real or fake diamond but you might also consider a weighing test. Did you know that a cubic zirconia weighs almost fifty percent more than an actual real diamond? You might be able to determine which it is by weighing them as well.

If neither of these methods proves to work for you, you should consider performing a transparency test. If you can place your diamond on a newspaper, face down, and you can still read what the paper says, then you have a cubic zirconia on your hands. If you in fact cannot read the paper through the diamond, you have a nice real diamond! This is a very commonly used method because it's simple and anybody can read the results.

However if you still are not satisfied with any of the above methods there might be another one you could consider. This is another method that anyone can do therefore it is commonly used as well as the transparency method. Hold the diamond to your face and blow onto it (like you were putting a fog on it). If the fog actually shows on the diamond and stays for more than a second then you in fact have a fake diamond. A real diamond will not hold heat that way and the fog will automatically disappear. Dirt can prevent this method from working properly so before using this method clean your diamond well.

If you are uncomfortable performing any methods on your own, consider using a professional. A great way to know what you have is when purchasing or shopping for a diamond, be sure to tell the sales clerk that so they know you only want to see real diamonds. There are some great looking cubic zirconia diamonds out there and many people prefer them over real ones at times, usually because they aren't comfortable being responsible for a real diamond.
