As a small child, the cuckoo clock on my wall was the most incredible object that I had ever known. Of course, I was only five years old; however, I still believe that I would be completely surprised to find a cuckoo clock that would come any where near comparing to that beloved cuckoo clock of the good old days.
My cuckoo clock had a miniature alpine scene that had beautiful full trees surrounding a cozy little cabin that held the cuckoo bird that popped out every hour to chirp the time. Here is a nice furniture site . As time has passed and I have aged, I realize that I am probably a little critical of such mechanical phenomenon, but as a youngster I enjoyed owning such a nice object. I was mesmerized by the miniature size of each part. Although a larger version would probably have been just as delightful, the tiny parts were miraculous to my child’s mind.
Naturally, larger and more impressive clocks do exist, but an impression made on you at such a young age can never be bested. I was so engrossed with the cuckoo clock that I bought a build-it-yourself kit to make my own cuckoo clock. It was very cool that the gears and springs were already to go, but the pendulum, wooden inner pieces, and painted background had to be made by my own hand.
Not being the most handy of craftsmen, I have not put together many projects. It took me several times to get the cuckoo clock together correctly, but I was absolutely thrilled that I managed such a fun project by myself. You can probably imagine how exciting it is to put together a favorite object from your past with your own skills. Having spent hours more than what most people would have taken on the project, I felt the effort was well worth it when I looked at my finished cuckoo clock kit. Yes, I could have found a ready-made cuckoo clock to buy, but it would not have been near as much fun.
