an attitude is predisposition to respond in particular ways towards specific things , it has 3 elements:
1- belief or opinion about something.
2-feelings about that thing.
3- a tendency to act toward that thing in certain ways.
our attitudes are shaped by:
-culture : influences everything from our taste in food to our attitudes toward human relationships and our political opinions.
-parents: we acquire many attitudes from our parents.
-peers : shapeour attitude because we are influenced by who we associate with.
there are three main process involved in forming or changing attitudes:
-compliance:adapting your actions to the wishes of others , in order to avoid discomfort or rejection and to gain support.
-indentification:occurs when a person wants to define himself or herself in terms of a person or group.Person believe the adapted views or ideas.
-internalization: this is the complete acceptance of an attitude; it becomes an integral part of the person . it is the most lasting of the 3 sources of attitude formation or change.
compliance and identification may lead to internalization , but often 3 overlap.
