Cost Of Dental Procedures
Matt Wittchow
In order to acquire those three items, a dentist must make a sizable investment. That investment adds to the investment that any dentist has already made in his or her education. After all, dental school is not cheap. A dentist has good reason to expect a return on his or her investment. That then helps to explain the high cost of tooth whitening, when it is done in a dentist’s office.
Yet the expenses incurred during the performance of teeth whitening procedures come from more than the items mentioned above. The dentist must pay for the teeth whitening products. The dentist needs to have more than one product, so that his or her patients can choose a product to their liking.
Today, the dentist relies heavily on the use of computerized equipment. When the dentist takes pictures of a patient’s teeth, the digitized picture is stored in a computer. If the dentist has computer problems, then the dentist must pay the technician who comes to perform the computer repairs. That expense adds to the many expenses already facing the practicing dentist.
The elimination of any one expense obviously lowers the cost of a typical whitening procedure. What, however, can be safely eliminated? Certainly no one wants to visit the office of a dentist who has not paid for and received a standard dental school education. No one wants to visit a dentist who must operate without the assistance of a dental hygienist (or at least a secretary familiar with dental terminology).
Suppose, though, that one could eliminate the rental costs owed by the typical practicing dentist. Such savings would not enhance to ability of the dentist to learn how to whiten teeth, but such savings would reduce the cost of tooth whitening. The reduced costs would be passed on to any user of an online whitening service.
An online whitening service allows those with off-colored teeth to go online, in search of an inexpensive way to obtain teeth whitening. In that way, the patient who wants to save money can avoid going to the dentist’s office. He or she just orders a kit from the online provider of a whitening kit.
The kit comes with putty, putty that can be used to make an impression. The patient who wants to enjoy the benefits of teeth whitening must use the putty (and the accompanying instructions) to make an impression of his or her own teeth. That impression is then sent to the lab, a lab that operates as part of the online facility. The lab then makes a custom-fitted tray for the online patient.
After the patient receives the tray, he or she fills the tray with a suitable tooth cleaning product, such as carbamide peroxide. After the whitening product is on the teeth, it then breaks down, releasing oxygen. The released oxygen eliminates the coloring on the teeth.
The kit sold by the typical online whitening provider costs between $500 and $600. The patient does not have to leave his or her home in order to obtain teeth whitening. The expected transportation costs for the patient have been eliminated. The rental costs for the dentist are also non-existent, allowing the savings to be past on to the online patient.
The health of the patient has not been sacrificed, because the training of the dentist remains of the same high quality. The facility operated by the online whitening provider has equipment comparable to the equipment in a dentist’s office. An online patient can thus be guaranteed satisfactory and low cost teeth whitening.
