Corporate Business Development Jobs
Gareth Parkin
In the world of corporate business, picking out and giving good, memorable gifts is an important part of growing your business and getting ahead. Business gifts can and do serve a number of functions. A gift can be given to your employees as a symbol of gratitude for their past and future hard work and dedication to your enterprise. Reciprocally, an appropriate gift can be given to a boss or manager to show them that their leadership is greatly appreciated and not at all taken for granted. Gifts can be given in the boardroom as a method for maintaining and strengthening bonds between people whose work is often very stressful and demanding. And last but certainly not least, a gift can be given to propspective or current clients.
Gifts such as these serve to remind those with whom we’d like to do business that we care for their patronage, teamwork or success, and they also serve as a wonderful marketing tool. The current client to whom we give an engraved desk clock may have an opportunity to show his gift to others with whom he associates. This could mean lucrative future deals for the gift giver.
When giving a gift within a corporate environment it is important to do a little research before buying and presenting a gift. First of all, does the company for which you work have any specific policies regarding gift giving? Some companies not only allow gift giving, but allocate money within the budget for just that sort of thing, in which case you could save yourself from paying out of pocket, simply by doing a little research beforehand.
You should also know ahead of time if any of your associates or co-workers intend to give business gifts to a client. When more than one gift is given to a client, those with sharp business minds make sure to organize their effort and give gifts that complement one another. Sometimes there is also the option to combine budgets and give a gift that will be doubly memorable.
If you’re having trouble thinking of a gift for a client, boss, or fellow employee, there are a number of strategies you can employ to find something right for them. If you’ve been inside their office recently, think of the items they display there. Do they have a clock or plaque that was given to them as a gift, or perhaps a beautiful gold-plated pen with which they write? Do they have any items that are monogrammed or a particular theme in their office -- maybe a golf or boating theme -- to which they might like to add? Do they have an apparent favorite color?
Try to find something unique. It can be difficult to buy gifts for one’s family, let alone a person with whom we are vastly less intimate. For a great business gift, give your associate, client or boss a little something that will speak to your respect and appreciation for them. And if you doubt whether the gift can certainly do that, you can always give it along with a nice card or note.
