Many people wish they could get away from it all. With every day life becoming more and more stressful by the day, it is no wonder that people tend to become burned out from the rigors of what past generations would have thought to be unbelievable amounts of stress. It is no wonder that the vacation industry is so big, as even the most routine days can make anyone long for a break. Many people find their solace from the stress of the world around them by making their home a more comforting and relaxing environment through the use of rustic home decor.

Of course, not everyone has the time, money, or space to fill their homes with log furniture and crackling fireplaces of rough-hewn stone. However, with a little creativity, you can easily and cheaply work a little bit of rustic home decor into your life. It may not be your own peaceful little cabin in the woods, but it will be sure to be a relaxing environment for you.

A great and simple way to bring a hint of rustic home d'cor into your home is to incorporate some plants into your home. Whether they are a few potted flowers or a full blown indoor garden, plants can bring some life and color to your environment. If you enjoy cooking, then keeping a small garden of potted herbs is a great way to improve your atmosphere and your meals all at the same time! A plant theme can go further than just keeping actual plants, though. Working simple flower patterns or other plant patterns into your home decor will give it an excellent rustic touch. In fact, working a similar theme in (for instance, having a particular kind of flower potted, and in patterns throughout your home) can go a long way to tie your d'cor together.

The easiest way to adapt rustic home d'cor into your every day life is through the use of accessories and simple additions to your home. For instance, embroidery hoops with embroidered flowers and comforting messages always work well. Similarly, an old rocking chair or some rustic quilts can be a great step toward changing the feel of a room in no time at all. Wicker baskets make a nice addition to your decor, and can also be very functional as storage, or can hold even more accent pieces, such as an old-fashioned rag doll or some dried flowers.

Finally, you can bring rustic home decor into your home through color scheme and the use of rustic materials. Any natural-looking wood furniture will fit right in, particularly if it is fairly simple in design. In many cases, you can just use a particularly old-fashioned piece as the center point of a room, and use somewhat less rustic seeming pieces along with it if they have similar coloring or design elements and still be able to maintain the rustic home d'cor that you are trying for. If you cannot get unpainted wood furnishings, you should go with muted colors and earth tones for the most part.
