When you choose to be a nurse you know right from the beginning that there are so many different types of employment opportunities out there that you will never be without a job. As a nurse you can choose to work in a hospital, as a midwife, in a nursing home, as a travel nurse and the list can go on and on. The USA has been experiencing a nursing shortage for several years now and this is why many Canadians are choosing to work in the USA as they are more likely to get employed here than in Canada where there are too many nurses and not enough hospitals. The benefits of this nursing shortage for newly graduated nurses is that you have more opportunity to choose the position you want, where if hospitals were full you would be lucky to get a job at all, let alone the position you actually want.

Many nurses are choosing to not only have one employment route in their career field but to choose several different avenues they can benefit from. Nurses are beginning to combine their hospital working skills with midwifery and even different jobs on different days to expand their experience at a faster rate.
