Just look at the compact digital camera in the market now, you can get a camera with at least 9 megapixels and 10x optical zoom at the price of less than $300. Even the DSLR cameras nowadays are getting more and more affordable.
Also when competitions are getting stronger, manufacturers will try to make cameras with as many features as possible.
