Genital warts are also called condylomata acuminata or venereal warts. This illness is the most easily recognized sign of genital HPV infection. This type of illness found in both male and female. In a female, it is found near the vulva (the outside genital area), vagina, cervix, or anus and in a male, it is found near or on the penis, scrotum, or anus. This illness happens due to the sexual contact. Infant can also be affected by this illness but this is rare. Due to mother contact that is already affected by this illness, infant affected. Condoms can't offer full protection against genital warts, as the virus is passed on through direct skin-to-skin contact, and condoms only cover the penis. Warts usually develop three weeks to six months after infection. But it may take longer.

In fact, scientists estimate that as many as 6 million new cases of genital warts are diagnosed in the United States each year.

Causes

People with have many sexual partner have high risk and people who do not have safe sex. Genital warts are caused by the human papilloma virus. The strains of this virus that cause genital warts are different to the strains that cause warts on the fingers and hands. About 90% of genital warts are caused by 2 specific types of the virus and are the least likely to have cancer causing potential. Many people carry the wart virus on their penis, in and around the vagina, or in and around the anus or rectum. Only a small number of these people develop warts that can be seen. It is passed with skin to skin contact during anal or vaginal sex. If you are sexually active, having sex only with a partner who doesn't have HPV and only has sex with you will lower your risk of getting genital warts.

If any Patients have history of genital warts than it may be at increased risk for certain types of cancer.

Symptoms

Genital warts often occur in clusters. It can be very tiny or can spread into large masses on genital tissues. Warts may look like tiny bunches of cauliflower or like flat, white areas that are very difficult to see. In women and men, warts may appear in the groin, on and around the genitals, in the urethra, or in the rectum or anus. Sometimes the warts can be seen around and in the mouth and throat of those who have had oral sex with an infected person. Generally it is found that warts themselves are not painful but they can interfere with normal bodily functions, such as urinating and bowel movements, making these actions painful and uncomfortable.

How are genital warts diagnosed?

If you notice warts in your genital area, see your doctor. Your doctor may be able to diagnose the warts just by examining you. For women, a Pap test can help detect changes on the cervix that genital warts can cause.

Treatment

Treatment for the genital warts will depend on size and location. Warts on the genitals may be frozen with liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy). Your doctor may have to apply the liquid nitrogen at a number of different office visits until the warts are completely gone.

Podofilox works by destroying genital wart tissue. Your doctor may want to administer the first application, and will recommend precautionary steps to prevent the medication from irritating surrounding skin.
