A diamond on its primeval, uncut form is denominated rough diamond. Without the cut, not many people would take a second look on it, since it appears like a (more or less) ordinary glass stone.
The cut determine the brilliance of the diamond, (we must differentiate it of the shape, which is the main form of the jewel, explained later), we can find very different styles in the market, being the most common and accepted one is the round cut, or brilliant cut.
Since the quality in the cut defines how brilliant is the gem, if the cut was a high quality one, the diamond will greatly reflect the light, enhancing this way its brightness.
If we compare two diamonds of the same size, shape, purity and color, and one its shining way more than the other, with no doubt we can blame the cut for it. As is logic, the better the cut is, the higher the price and value of the diamond. Even though, other aspects that can affect the brightness are the polishing and the simetry.

To sum up about the cut, we must know that the GIA have the cut classification divided in four categories, Class One and Two are very well proportionate, while the Class Three and Four are not.
Our advice in order to get a good diamond or diamond jewelry, at an affordable price and same time not lacking of quality is to go for a Class Two.
